Why not sell city hall and use the money for road repairs?
Selling the city offices would raise only a fraction of the needed infrastructure funds, and would not resolve the issue of where city staff, including our police, would be housed. The vacancy rate for office space in Orinda is 2%. The city searched extensively for alternative sites for its offices and found no cost-effective alternatives. Very few locations are available and none are suitable for the joint use of city administration and police offices. Suggesting that we sell city offices might score political points, but it ignores the cost of housing city staff elsewhere, and the fact that over time rented office space may in fact cost more. The new offices have been designed specifically for city staff and police, and would not be as suitable for general commercial purposes.
