Why not penalize companies that send their jobs overseas with tariiffs?
Generally they are penalized with import tariffs. However, the thing to remember is that the taxes are passed on to the consumer – always. Thus low income families will be the ones penalized. Another thing to consider is that the companies, if they are corporations sold on the stock markets, means that any penalty is going to be passed on to stock holders – which means people with retirement plans, or elderly living off of pensions (retired teachers, fire-fighters, etc.). The best thing to do is give incentives to companies to keep their manufacturing here, and to hire Americans. The “trickle down” affect will spread – truckers driving raw materials to the factory – and drive finished products from the factory, builders building factories, diners feeding factory workers. Every factory worker has a “trickle down” affect on at least four other workers.
