Why not offer more drug treatment programs to reduce the number of repeat offenders?

The County already provides substance abuse treatment programs to minimum security inmates and persons on work release. Current inmates classified as medium and high security are unable to participate in these treatment programs due to lack of programming space in secure facilities. The Criminal Justice Commission continues to look for opportunities to expand treatment programs whenever possible. One such accomplishment is the reclassifying of an existing Talbert House facility as a minimum security jail so that it may house and treat short-term DUI offenders.
