Why not just plant fast growing tree species?
Tree plantation projects that plant fast growing species do absorb more CO2; however this is only for very short term projects. Because the trees grow fast they can only be used for short lived products such as paper and firewood. An identical area of sustainable forest will grow for much longer and will absorb much more CO2. As plantations are susceptible to disease and climate changes, a forest that fits in with the local ecosystem will last a lot longer and absorb more CO2.
