Why not just generate more power through free and clean energy sources, such the wind and sun?

A. Renewable energy will continue to play an important part in Ontario’s energy mix. The Ontario Power Authority’s long-term energy plan includes plans to double the province’s renewable energy supply to 15,700 megawatts by 2025. Ontario’s installed wind power capacity alone has soared from less than 15 megawatts in 2003, to more than 500 megawatts in January 2008. And the Standard Offer program launched in 2006 is expected to add up to 1,000 megawatts of renewable power to Ontario’s electricity system over 10 years. However, because wind and solar power output depends on the weather, we also need other more stable sources of energy in our supply mix.
