WHY NOT JUST CREATE AN ONLINE JOURNAL?
What I loved most about the bathroom walls, was the interaction between voices. One person would write something about drugs. The next person would scribble over it, and write their thoughts. And so on. It became, in a sense, a conversation. My hope was that the journals would keep that same spirit. If people just scanned what they had done, there would be no interaction. Also, the act of sharing a journal has brought people closer together, I’m not sure individuals scanning their own journals and posting it online would have the same affect. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TEMPTED TO REMOVE WORK FROM A JOURNAL AND FRAME IT ON YOUR WALL? Yes. There is so much good stuff in the journals, I love it. Not just inside either, the cover designs are great. When Gary Taxali, an illustrator, sent me artwork for his cover, I called him and begged him to let me keep it. The original artwork now hangs in my living room. ARE THERE ANY COUNTRIES, IN PARTICULAR, THAT HAVE THE MOST INTRIGUING SPREADS? I’m always i
