This was deemed not to be a good investment based on several shortcomings. The first would be the cost. On a per square foot cost basis, the elevator and related stairway relocation is the highest cost element of the proposed building expansion. A preliminary cost estimate to do the elevator/stairway portion of the project alone ranges between $1.0-$1.5 million. The high cost is primarily due to the extensive reconstruction that would need to be done within the existing buildings as well as the need to relocate all electric service and other potential utility relocation located below ground.
