Why not have flatter points distribution within events?

0

Golf has historically been a game that has rewarded high finishes, and wins in particular. Flattening the points distribution would take away much of the premium for winning and make for a very different kind of competition. For example, in 2001, Tiger Woods won five times, including the players and The Masters, had nine top-10s and 18 top-25s in 19 starts. With a flatter points distribution, a player with 25 top-20 finishes but without a win — or even a top-10 — could have been ahead of Tiger at the reset. Of course, we want to encourage players to play more often. However, we don’t want the results to be so far removed from what we have come to regard as top quality play through the course of a year that the results aren’t credible with fans, the media and the players themselves.
