Why not fly rockets in the Saskatoon city parks?

0

These would be the easiest and most obvious places to fly rockets. Unfortunately, there are a couple of “gotchas” that discourage launches within city limits. CAR Model Rocket Safety Code item 7 specifies that the launch site must not be within 9.1 kilometres of the centre of an airport, and that permission must be obtained from the site owner. The 9.1 km spec isn’t too bad. It means that Lakewood park and Diefenbaker park could conceivably be used. However, to get the city’s permission, you must get a permit from the Saskatoon fire marshal. To get a permit, you must be certified to handle fireworks. As soon as the launch site is moved out of city limits, city permission is not required. You then only need permission from the land owner. This may seem a bit picky, but it’s a good way to keep out of trouble, especially if you want to open your launches to general public viewing.
