Why not fly Canada’s flag?
Dart… To the American management team at Canadian National Railway’s Trascona rail shops near Winnipeg, which ordered the removal of two large Canadian flags from the workplace. Workers are incensed and view the action as an attempt by management to Americanize the century-old yard. The flags inside the building were deemed unsuitable during a general cleanup last summer of the facility, which employs around 500 workers. “. . . they were filthy, dirty and quite honestly, a bit of a disgrace,” said Terry Corson, the Montana-born director of the Transcona shops. Corson refuses to replace them. The shop workers and their union see the removal as part of a larger shift away from the company’s Canadian roots. Formerly a Crown corporation, CN was privatized in 1995. “The American influence is pretty strong,” said one worker.
