Why not find an opensource CAD project and team up with them?
The best answer is that project has a different end-goal then the goal of the Linux/GNU CAD CAM project. They probably want to draw technical diagrams where we want to be able to make “chips”. It would also require the other project team members to have a basic understanding of machine control and CNC machines.
