Why not change the motorway speed limit to 80mph?
It’s ludicrous to suggest all drivers leave their houses with the intention of breaking the speed limit. Sure, some do, but those people don’t deserve licenses. They exceed the speed limit because they believe it is safe to do so, and with speed limits tumbling to the point where many are below the governments own strict suggestions, can you blame them? Finding a safe speed is a key point of being a good driver. Sadly, defining a safe speed is quite a task. The 70mph speed limit was first introduced as a temporary measure. Since then, cars have improved, so has driver testing and to an extent, policing. Motorway designs have taken several steps to ensure they remain to be among the best in the world, and the roads are generally designed to be safe to handle at 100mph. Therefore I see no problem with taking our motorways out of the stone age and upping the limit.
