At this stage we invite preliminary views from the sector, to build on the work of the HEFCE/AHRC expert group that reported in 2006. At the next stage, we will need to consider in detail the burden on institutions and on peer review panels. This will be impractical until the 2008 RAE has completed, and there are limited resources for this at present. We plan to develop light-touch peer review from 2009, leading up to implementation in 2013.
