Why not ask the legislature to provide additional funding?
We have – on several occasions. The answer has generally been no. Almost none of our elected officials will deny that our industry is a significant economic engine for Alaska. The problem is identifying a funding source. Many legislators do not want to dip into the general fund given our state’s current budget deficit and our shrinking constitutional budget reserve. The legislature has asked (and expects) our industry to find a non-general fund revenue source for additional tourism marketing. The assessment is our answer.
