Why not allow the user to input the rule-speed too?
The boundaries of the ETOPS areas are pre-computed. Computing them on-the-fly would require roughly a minute per area requested, so a map with 90-, 120-, and 180-minute rule-times would require about three minutes to generate instead of a few seconds as the current implementation requires. Since most airliners for which ETOPS is an issue will have similar rule-speeds, the high cost of allowing various speeds adds little value.
