Why no West Coast beaches besides Hawaii?
— Southern California beaches have been memorialized by the Beach Boys and other groups, but the water is chilly by East Coast standards. The waves are great for surfing, but often produce dangerous conditions for bathers and swimmers, especially by generating strong rip currents. Also, many of the beaches are almost too popular, creating large crowds.
