Why no hot water – Potterton Kingfisher 2 boiler?

The boiler provides central heating as well as hot water. Then heating side of things is fine but hot water is not being fed to the hot water tank. The 22mm hot water pipe from the boiler ( I understand this is a gravity system) gets warm only about 2 feet up it – it seems like there is a blockage but I am at a loss to why it should be and what can I do about it?
