Why must the eyes natural lens be removed during cataract surgery?
The lens has the job of focusing light correctly on the retina to enable clear vision. Once cataracts form on the eyes natural lens, there is no known method of removing them and retaining the lens. Instead, the lens must be removed and a man-made lens inserted in its place. Today’s lens options allow for a broader range of vision without glasses than the older lenses.
