Why must a Fork truck operator be tested?
Before anyone can drive a car, a person must learn how to drive and drive safely on our roads, the principle is the same for a Fork truck driver. An employer has a legal duty under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure that no one operates a Fork truck without having received appropriate training and passing both a theory and practical driving assessment. All lift trucks are dangerous and can cause serious injuries and in some cases fatalities, especially when being driven or operated by an unqualified person.
