why Murrayfield for European games?

Tynecastle does not meet uefa standards for European games. As Murrayfield the home of the Scottish rugby union comes closest to the required standard[JUST] permission was granted by uefa and the s.r.u. to use Murrayfield.

They’ll need Murrayfield because im sure they will have a tough match against AEK Athens and hopefully all you Hearts fans can cheer them on. Im a Celtic fan myself and truly can say you outplayed us on Sunday but I’d be happy to see you in the Champions League. Good Luck!

Tynecastle does not make UEFA requirements but its not a disaster, if they asked for special dispensation they can play at Tynecastle. Murrayfield will hold more fans and so more money but that includes the hire of the stadium for the night and some people think the fans a a bit far away from the pitch. On the other hand, Gretna’s ground ain’t even near UEFA requirements and so had the go to the closest available, Fir Park. The restraints on these regulations are sometimes mad. Hampden & Ibrox can host a Euro final but Parkhead cant, reason being (and no, its not the myth of the size of the dressing room, thats false) its the fact that Parkhead is too far from the nearest international airport. In saying that, Ibrox will never be put forward as a Euro final venue by the SFA to keep the Bhoys quiet.
