Why MSN messagers font colors only have 16 choices?
It appears this is only true to simplify some aspects of the program’s configuration, but there’s no technical reason why it should be limited to only 16 colors. The code was only written to send two hexadecimal characters which is what limits the number of colors that are built-into the client, but there’s no reason they couldn’t have made this larger by default. Many versions of the official client limit you to sending only a few select font colors, but it is possible to specify any one of almost 17 million colors (24-bit color). The value of the CO field is a six-character hexadecimal BGR (blue-green-red, the reverse of the standard RGB order seen in HTML) string.
