CASSELBERRY, Fla.. — A man at the gun range were a mother shot her son and herself said Thursday he “immediately thought it was some sort of accident or a ricochet.” James Copertino soon realized it wasn’t. “I saw him almost hitting the floor, and her going completely backwards,” Copertino said. Marie Moore, 44, shot and killed her son, Mitchell, 20, and herself Sunday at Shoot Straight in Casselberry. Moore, in tapes and letters she left, apologized for having “to send my son to heaven and myself to hell.” The notes, found in her purse, add little to explain why Marie Moore decided to pick up a gun and kill her son before committing suicide at Shoot Straight Gun Range in Casselberry on Sunday. She also left audio tapes at her home, although it is not known when she recorded them.
