Why many products in US and Canada don have stamped the expiration date?

0

I worked in a grocery store for a very good part of my life, my family owned one. I think what most people don’t realize is that on many foods there are dates, but they are nearly impossible to read for most people. These are in codes, and they do mean something. Some foods have open dates, there are more than 1/2 of the states in the US don’t require the dating of certain types of foods. So, if the food was produced in one of these states an expiration date will not be printed on the product. This is where food expiration date coding comes into play. You have to figure out how the company decodes these. Many will put the date the product was made, a processing date. Usually a canned food will be good for 2 years after it is processed. So say a code is like this 031090394, that number will mean something. You can always call the company and asked. The reason you have to call the company is because all companies do this in a different method. However, you might be able to find it online
