Why make post-access for some forums for subscribers only?

Ars Technica was created to serve serve the technical community. When it comes to our forums, we consider some forums to be critical to our mission, and others are not so critical to that mission. Of course, the subscription-only forums are near and dear to our hearts, which is why we keep them around. Moving to a subscription model for these forums makes sense because, in our view, they’re a value-added service, and something that has proven to work well as such.
