Why make an online portfolio?
It sounds like a lot of work, but creating an online portfolio to showcase your work is worth it: • Stand out from the crowd – everyone’s got a resume and a folder with some printed materials. When you go in for an interview, you don’t just tell your potential boss that you can write and take photos, you show them. So, don’t just say, “Yeah, I can do video and web stuff,” show them! • Market yourself – the big buzzword on the internet right now is personal branding. It boils down to this: be entreprenuerial in all aspects of your work. Promote yourself as an authority in some aspect of your work. Showcase your talent. • Build a network – Most people get hired at a given job because they know someone who knows someone. Get out there and connect with people that share your interests! • Job Security – Use your web presence to market yourself as an expert. Experts don’t get fired!
