Linear programming is a topic that has been added to the Michigan Content Expectations for Algebra I. It can be a difficult concept for some students to understand, but at the same time, much depth into the topic is not required at the Algebra I level. Therefore, I believe it is a topic that students can understand pretty well if given enough time and a meaningful activity to help them. Audience I have already mentioned that this project will be done by Algebra I students. This would include the freshmen I teach as well as the 8th grade advanced math students if their teachers choose to use this project in their classes. Timeline This project is to be done at the conclusion of a lesson on linear programming. Students should already have an understanding of solving a linear equation for a variable and graphing systems of linear inequalities. The project will take just over one week to complete.
