Why learn Visual Basic? A fairy-tale… Once upon a time, people typed messages to computers and computers typed messages back. There were no mice and pointers, no windows, no pictures on the screens. To enter data you just typed words and numbers on your keyboard and the computer replied with words and numbers on the screen, line after line in sequence. And programmers wrote the programs which controlled these computers in exactly the same way line after line of words and numbers, program code, telling the computer what to do. It was dull, but it worked. Then, one day, a man (whose name was not Bill Gates) thought wouldnt it be easier and more fun to use computers if we gave them Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) which people could operate with mice and pointers, which could include pretty pictures and icons, menus, toolbars… And thus began a new era of computing, and all the computer users wept with joy. At first the programmers carried on writing the new programs in the old way lin
