Why learn Mandarin Chinese? Why not French or Spanish?
Knowing any foreign language is great. It opens up your mind to other cultures. However, we feel Mandarin Chinese is the language to know in this millennium. Mandarin Chinese is spoken by the world’s most populated nation. The U.S. State Department has designated the Chinese language as “critical to national prosperity and security.” In recognition of the need to build a population with knowledge of a critical language like Chinese, there is proposed legislation that authorizes $1.3 billion in federal funds over 5 years for Chinese language instruction in U.S. schools. Mandarin Chinese has been added as an elective subject in many schools around the country at a very fast pace. 2006 will be the first year that the College Board will be offering Advanced Placement (AP) courses in Chinese language and culture. As China’s influence on global economy and politics becomes stronger, your children will be ahead of the curve by having a foundation in Mandarin Chinese.
