Why Learn Hebrew?
The main reason why the author of AlephBet wrote this program was that the ancient Holy Scriptures were originally written mostly in Hebrew. The Jewish Bible (consisting of The Law, The Prophets, and The Writings) is the Christian “Old Testament,” and it was originally written in Hebrew (except for a few parts which were written in Aramaic, such as part of the book of the prophet Daniel). Although English translations of the Scriptures have become quite good, nothing can quite replace an understanding of the original language in which it was written. “Plays on words,” alliteration, and other language-specific entities are simply lost unavoidably when translation to a different language occurs. The author desires to learn Hebrew because he believes that a rich new level of understanding of the Scriptures can be gained by doing so.
