It is true that the Rank bonus goes up for your chop when you raise your overall skill but not near as much as when you train in the skill itself. When you reach higher ranks in the Overall skill the gain be only a few more Rank bonus in berserk with 10 new ranks in Overall skill. So the goal is to keep a good balance between overall skill and the subskills. The only limit is that you can’t get higher ranked in your subskill than the overall skill. Of course being grandmaster in all moves is the optimal situation.
