Why join ASCE?
Becoming a member of ASCE gives students a chance to apply knowledge from the classroom to “real world” situations, such as designing and building a steel bridge or a concrete canoe. Not only do students get the opportunity to apply their engineering knowledge in events such as Carolina’s Conference, but they also learn about teamwork, leadership, and ethics that are needed in the engineering profession. Joining ASCE is a good way for students to meet practicing engineers. Through business meetings, tailgates, socials, and many other activities, students make contacts with engineers on a more personal level. ASCE also gives students a chance to interact with the staff and other students outside of the classroom. Through activities such as tailgates, socials, intramural sports, and student/faculty softball games, students get a chance to relax and meet new people.
