Why JDRF and the Walk to Cure Diabetes?
More than 500,000 people walk at over 200 sites in the US and around the world. As an organization, JDRF is the world’s leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 research; funding a major portion of all type 1 diabetes research worldwide, more than any other charity. Since its inception, JDRF has provided more than $1.16 billion to diabetes research worldwide. JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with type 1 diabetes – a disease that strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. More than 85 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF’s mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
