For the same reason that Windows Vista isn’t a service pack upgrade to Windows XP, and Windows XP isn’t a service pack upgrade to Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 isn’t a service pack upgrade to Windows NT and Windows NT isn’t a service pack upgrade to Windows 98 and Windows 98 isn’t a service pack upgrade to Windows 95 and Windows 95 isn’t a service pack upgrade to Windows 3.1 and Windows 3.1 isn’t a service pack upgrade to Windows 3.0. (I think I got the succession right there… maybe) Regardless, the reason MS was so gung-ho to get a new OS out there instead of just upgrading Vista is because Vista has gotten a HORRIBLE reputation since it came out. Everyone and there mother thinks Vista is just terrible. So MS isn’t trying to salvage the name, they’re trying to release a brand new product with (more importantly) a new name. Consider a businessman who buys a restaurant. If the restaurant is doing very well and has a good reputation, he’ll leave the name the same and try to make the ch
