Why isn there gravity in space?
According to theory, there is gravitational attraction in space, although not at the same value as the gravity we’re accustomed to here on Earth. On the moon, the gravitational force is only one-sixth that of the Earth, on Jupiter, it’s over two and a half times as much, and starlight nearing the sun appeared to be “bent” by gravitation during the solar eclipse of 1922. But even in “deep” space, the recession of galaxies is said to be slowed down because they attract one another. None of this, however, is without controversy about both cause and effect. Maybe gravity is just nature’s way of keeping us humble.
