Why isnt the BART Replacement Parking Garage being designed to add more parking spaces?
The Citys TOD Strategy addressed the issue of BART station parking and specifically included a goal to adopt a lower BART parking replacement to a range of 50% to 75% of the displaced spaces, while increasing other forms of access to the BART station. This goal was based upon a number of concerns including the cost of providing parking and the need to evaluate those costs against other amenities that could increase ridership and benefit the neighborhoods in the TOD area. However, the Strategy also allowed for an analysis of [a] specific development proposal when evaluating BART replacement parking. Because of public concern about this issue, San Leandro Crossings is proposing to provide replacement of 100% of the parking spaces currently located on the BART East Parking Lot.
