As soon as Queen Elizabeth dies, Charles will have his coronation and officially become King George VII (as he stated he will be called). The succession doesn’t skip generations. The Queen was the heir to the throne, because her father had no sons. Prince Charles is Prince of Wales, the recognized heir to the throne. He won’t abdicate, he has been in training for the job all his life. When he dies he will be succeeded by Prince William. There can be no change in the order of the succession, unless it is approved by Parliament and all the Dominions of the Commonwealth. Highly unlikely to happen.
