Why isn’t percussion a beginning band instrument?

0

Percussion is the only section that has limited space. It is also the most popular section. To be fair, all students will begin on wind instruments and can audition for the percussion spots during the second half of the school year. The auditions will be based on the students’ average in band, their conduct in class, and their performance of basic techniques that Ms. Johns will teach during the auditions. If your child is selected for percussion, most music stores will have no problem exchanging the beginning instrument you start out with to a percussion kit. Just make sure the music store you work with will do this before you do business with them.
