Why isn nutmeg illegal if it can be used to get high and can be toxic?
A lot of other useful substances are in this category too, such as glue, gasoline and hairspray, cloves. Should we make them illegal? Any substance can be toxic if used injudiciously. I think it would be hard to enforce a nutmeg ban, too – lots of little old ladies have it in their cupboards for baking and for flavoring beverages and I can’t see the cops barging in to confiscate it from their own moms and grandmas. There are a lot of laws on the books already, so let’s save them for real crimes, rather than ones in which a person chooses to be his own victim.
