Why isn more than one course per description (IAI code) allowed to count towards fulfilling requirements?
One purpose of the General Education Core Curriculum is to develop students’ “breadth of knowledge.” This purpose guided not only the curriculum’s structure and requirements but also the deliberations of the field panels, particularly the Humanities/Fine Arts and Social/Behavioral Science panels, during the course review process. Since courses assigned to a single course description (IAI code) were substanially similar in content, a student should not use more than one course assigned to a single description (or code) in fulfilling requirements.
