Why isn it called a “hate crime” when 2 black men attack and kill a white woman?
Although there are cases in which the victim’s family, the prosecutor, etc, can make claims of hate crime, generally a white on black crime (just as a black on white crime) needs to proven to have been committed simply because of the victim’s race, and racial hatred/prejudice was the motivation. And, IMO, there certainly are more hate crimes perpetrated on blacks by whites, or on gays by straight maniacs. I’ll even go a step further, and say, that because of years of prejudice, statistically, there probably really are more white on black hate crimes. I’m a white guy, but think about it: As much as we’d like to think tremendous strides have been made toward racial equality (and many have been), I think black folks absolutely have more to overcome to be successful, and to “prove” themselves. I don’t mean to imply that should give anyone a free ride through the judicial system with respect to claims of hate crimes, but the reality is there’s still and unspoken undercurrent of prejudice ag
