Why isn all of the information in the 835 or NSF remittance advice reported in paper remittance advice notices?
Electronic remittance advice (ERA) transactions contain hundreds of data elements. It is not practical or cost effective for CMS to print out each of those data elements. We have included the most frequently used data elements in the paper notices, but providers who need supplemental data must begin to receive ERAs.
