Why isn t this a recertification program?
A. To effectively and collegially encourage teachers to continue their education, punitive mandates have proven to be ineffective. However, teachers should be excellent role models for their students and personify the philosophy of being a life-long learner. Continuing education for teachers is a mandate, but the means to this end is critical. If approached as an alliance among the teachers, the Department of Education, and the State Board of Education, the positive impact on teachers can be a motivating factor. The greatest incentive for the productive participation of teachers is the fact that they will be involved in the development and implementation of this initiative at all levels.
