Why is Yukon moving to provide secure forms of the drivers licence and general identification card?

0

In the 1970s Yukon offered state of the art Polaroid driver’s licences. Over time your driver’s licence has changed from a document needed to operate a vehicle to a commonly used form of government-issued identification. Yukon is now offering both a secure driver’s licence and a secure general identification card so that all Yukon residents can have a government-issued, secure ID. It will be convenient for travelling, and will guard against identity theft and prevent tampering with photos and birth date. Since the process to obtain the card is secure, information on the card will be widely accepted. Yukon’s new secure driver’s licence and government identification cards will meet national standards for secure ID and the application process meet standards set by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA).
