Why is World Vision appealing for funds for Darfur?
The onset of heavy rains has increased people’s vulnerability to diseases such as malaria. Many are using unsafe water sources and have inadequate food reserves and shelter in the camps. Without the additional funds aid agencies are not able to expand the level of assistance to those in need. Temperatures have recently been up to 40 degrees and now a sudden change in weather is likely to expose displaced people to health risks. The civil war has intensified over the past six months. 4.5 million are affected by this escalating conflict. More and more families are fleeing for their lives, abandoning their homes and villages to seek refuge in camps. This is placing a huge strain on aid agencies seeking to provide healthcare, water and shelter in camps.
