Why is william shakespeare an important figure in history?
Let’s face it, Shakespeare isn’t everyone’s favorite, especially if you aren’t a lover of early modern English literature. However, he is arguably the greatest poet and playwright in the English language. Without Shakespeare, English and American literature as we know it today would not exist (not to mention literature in other languages). Also, the English language would not be the same as we know it today. Shakespeare also made huge strides to bridge medieval and classical literature to the modern literature we know and love today. Additionally, he has broad influence in modern theater and in film. Thousands of movies, books, poems, plays, etc. have been influenced by the once humble son of a glove maker from Stratford. So that is why Shakespeare is an important figure in history.
