Why is Widening Participation such an issue?
Widening participation and increasing access to Higher Education is seen as vital for social justice and economic competitiveness across the UK economy. Under-representation is considered to be closely connected with broader issues of equity and social inclusion, so a range of bodies are concerned with ensuring equality of opportunity for disabled students, mature students, women and men, and all ethnic groups.
