I don’t think that Wicca is THE magical religion. In fact, all religions have some elements of magic in them. Wicca happens to be one of many religions that contains strong beliefs in magic, spells, and ritual. We are certainly not the only religion to do so. I must also add the disclaimer that not all Wiccans practice magic in the form of spellcasting. We believe that the Divine permeates everything. We also realize the energy that flows through everything; that we are, in fact, all parts of one large WHOLE. As such, we believe that if we send our intent out into the whole, it can come back as manifested in the physical world. All parts of spells, from the common Wiccan view, serve only to focus on your intent and release it into the whole to be fulfilled. The use of magic dates to pre-Christian religions and probably started in the form of fertility rituals for harvest and children.
