Why is WebCT/Laulima not used with Adagio?
WebCT is developed with the assumption that the language you use is English. To my knowledge, WebCT is incapable of displaying Japanese. George University System has planned to offer an Japanese on-line course the fall of 2002 with WebCT, but they discovered that WebCT cannot handle the Japanese characters and they had no choice but to postpone the course offering. Also, the ability of the WebCT to handle sound files is limited. In order to learn a language, sound files are inevitable. This is another drawback of WebCT. I develop everything from scratch with Prof. Yokoyama at Akita University in Japan. There are many functions Adgaio has that WebCT doesn’t. For example, a function like the iVisit scheduling board is not available with WebCT/Laulima. Prof. Yokoyama and I are currently in the process of making a conjugation practice program to incorporate into Adagio. Once again such a function is not available with WebCT/Laulima.
