Your forgetting something Calgary had the 1988 Winter Olympics and didn’t have the problems you mentioned. Vancouver won based on the fact it’s a major city on the Pacific Rim that can more then handle the 2010 Winter Olympics. In terms of what the area has to offer is Whistler one of the great skiing resorts in the world. Canada and winter sports is kind of a natural fit. I expect tickets and overall attendance will be higher then it was in Turin. Try not to compare today with 1976 as the political/economic situation was a time of stagflation (high interest rates and unemployment) brought on by the global oil crises. This meant that labor and construction costs are going to be very high throw in the fact Quebec had a Socialist government that didn’t have private sponsorships to off set the costs as they funded it with government money.Throw in the fact powerful labor unions where able to hold Montreal hostage and cost overruns where astronomical.
