“Public universities around the country have found that they can greatly improve their ability to deliver student services, conduct research and enhance their academic portfolios by partnering with the private sector. Often, however, it is difficult for the private sector to partner directly with public universities as arms of state government. That is why, nationally, university-related foundations have evolved from traditional ‘investment committees’ that simply manage endowments into full-service organizations that assist the university creating facilities and commercializing new technologies among other services.
